Sharon's Textual Analysis Grid

To show that we have some form of understanding of what is involved within music videos that make them unique we all individually had completed a textual analysis grid which were based upon a music video released my an artist or a band. I based my analysis upon an existing signed band: The Script, Before the worst. The music video didn't involve a narrative story and was based upon a live performance. Unfortunately I didn't realise that on the other side of the sheet there was another grid but I had answered those questions on as I thought they were missed out :(

For my analysis grid i chose to look at 'The Script' as they are a similar band/artist to who we have chosen. In the song: "For the first time" there are jump cuts to the band performing and to the narrative story being told throughout the song which creates enjoyment for the audience and prevents them from being bored. We, as a group hope to acheive a video like this.

Possible Christina Perri Actress!!!

In our previous lesson we discussed possible actresses to play the role of Christina Perri in our music video. After much thought, Ashley came up with an idea to ask his friend Laura...

We now have confirmation from Laura that she will be Christina Perri in our music video. Laura would be an ideal candidate as she closely matches the appearance of Christina Perri herself. Laura is tall, thin and has similar facial features to Christina Perri. Laura also is quite a talented singer, which means she should be quite confident at acting and mouthing the lyrics from 'Jar of Hearts' to the camera.

This is a very important characteristic to have in an actress when performing in a music video, as the actress needs to be confident at looking into the camera lens whilst 'singing' the words to the song in order to create a realistic and professional effect.

Rough Ideas

After looking at Christina's song more closely, we decided to come up with a few ideas to include in our music video. Using the lyrics we analysed in the previous mind map, we thought of shots we could include in the video to correspond well with the lyrics. We also discussed what kind of tone and 'feel' our video should create.


We could perhaps write a bit more on this mind map next time we meet up to clearly define our ideas as our original ideas were unoriginal and conventional. Our new ideas for the music video are very unique and interesting, meeting and disobeying some of the 'love' genre conventions.

Christina Perri Mind Map

This was the mind map we created to gather rough information about what happens in the song and what we felt listening to it. We pointed out lyrics that have us a clue to what Cristina Perri was signing about, it also helped us visualise what to construct in screen, when we film the music video. 


This mind map proved very useful as it helped the group members who did not know Cristina Perri or her song very well, as it allowed them to identify her as an artist and see how she represents herself within her music.

Genre Mind Map

Heyy! This is just a little post for you guys so that you can be kept updated with what we're doing! In lesson we have recently been preparing our planning work. This is a part of our plan for our music video, it covers all the different aspects that we need to consider within our music video :) for example the narrative story and most importantly the genre, being a love song. 


The narrative story is considered typical however we have made a few 'tweeks' to make it unique. We have also covered the mise - en - scene and all the contents involved within that such as the lighting, costumes, props! Camera angles and shots have also been a key aspect, our aim is to try and involve a range of different shots, so that the video appears more interesting and eye catching. There is more still to come!!

Intro Message

Hey guys... We are: Sharon Meht, Alex Graham and Ashley Wilks! We are A2 Media Studies students, studying at Bilborough College. This blog was created to show our progression through our A2 Media coursework this year.
We have chose Christina Perri as our artist to study within our coursework. We will be creating a music video to play along with her song, 'Jar of Hearts.' We will also be creating various promotional materials such as: Posters, CD Covers and Websites, which all will correspond with our chosen artist!       Thats all for now, thanks :)
