Now, we know... Cinderella is not very 'Sinister' and 'Dark' story... However! We have come up with one possible idea that we quite like the sound of! :)
Well our idea is to use intertextual references to the Disney film Cinderella by recreating the story and using part of the films narrative within our music video. However, we plan to change this 'happy ever after' fairytale and turn it into something completely different!
We plan to make a sinister version of the Cinderella scene, when Cinderella is dancing with Prince Charming at the ball in the palace. This scene takes place when both characters are singing the song famous song, 'So This is Love.' Here is a brief clip from the film, showing the couple dancing together.
Using ideas we have been influenced by 'Kelly Clarkson - Behind These Hazel Eyes' we thought that we could start our music video off by first having shots of Cinderella and Prince Charming dancing together, like in the original Disney movie... The lighting would be bright and warm. The colours would be orange, yellow and positive. The costume and location would also be very merry and fairytale-like (Ballroom, Ball Gown, Suit, Dancing, etc...)
However, this happiness and fairytale-like scene will all change! During the dance, the prince should take out a knife and stab Cinderella in the chest, removing her heart. The lighting would then instantly (Like Kelly Clarkson - Behind These Hazel Eyes) become dark, grey and depressing. The colour should also change to black and white (Like Evanescence - My Immortal) to represent how Cinderella is now feeling now Prince Charming has taken her heart!
Cinderella will start to stager/crawl out of the Ball Room, down the stairs and outside (All the while bleeding from her chest onto her ball gown.) As she is doing this her dress will become much more bloodier, dirtier and ruined... Symbolising her loss of emotion and especially her heart. The music video will now focus on Cinderella and her reflection on her fairytale belief on life. The clips could possibly be mixed with her performing to the camera (current moment) and cut to her memories of her fairytale life to show how she has learnt how life really is! The song and music video could represent how she has learnt that life does not always end happily ever after!!! < We could use intertextual referencing to make the audience aware that the music video is a post modern take on the Disney film 'Cinderella.' This could be achieved by using similar shots to the original film, using similar locations and props, etc... (Ballroom, Glass slipper, Ball gown, etc...)
